Harrah's Casino VIP Promotional Event

Harrah's Casino and Hotel in East Chicago, held their 2-day VIP promotional event in
summer, 2004. The theme for that year's event was Hawaiian, and Scottie
was hired to mingle with the VIPs and have his photograph taken with them and
their guests.
This annual party is a by-invitation-only special event extended
only to those on the casino's VIP list. The VIPs of Harrah's Casino, are
generally those persons running a gambling account with Harrah's of a million
dollars or more. This very elaborate, upscale, and complimentary party is
one of the ways Harrah's thanks their VIPs for their patronage over the past
year, and it included promotions and incentives to keep them coming back.
In an interesting promotion with Coca-Cola conducted during the VIP event, a photo
with Scottie was a second-place prize preceded by a chance to win a $30,000 cash first prize.
When a VIP checked in, he or she was to blindly draw one of two
types of tickets from a bucket. Depending on the color of the ticket he
(or she) selected, the VIP received either a 12-pack case of Coca-Cola or a
photograph with Scottie. Hidden in one of the cans in one of the cases
randomly handed out was a $30,000
cash prize.
As it turned out, the $30,000 prize was discovered and won very
early. After that, all were hoping to draw the photo with Scottie.
It was interesting to observe these multi-millionaires - some of the wealthiest
people in the Midwest - wanting to exchange their ticket for the one that would get them the photo with Scottie.
