Community Support and EventsScottie is a strong supporter of the local community and works many events for the City of Des Plaines and other nearby communities and performs for many public and municipal organizations. He has done everything from marching in parades to working on stage to helping the victims of natural disasters. Scottie Helps The Victims of Hurricane KatrinaIn Autumn 2005, Scottie participated in 2 events to help families displaced by hurricane Katrina and temporarily housed at Maryville Academy in Des Plaines, Illinois. The first was a fund raiser held and sponsored by the city of Des Plaines. The second was entertainment directly to the displaced families held and sponsored by Willow Creek Community Church as part of their Inside-Out Program. Below left is a letter of thanks from the Nina Aliprandi, Assistant Director of Program Services for Maryville City of Youth. Below right is an excerpt from the letter placed on display at Willow Creek Church. (Photos of this event have not yet been received.)
Although he dreamed of being the hero on the right, Scottie did not actually fly into the hurricane to save people. That was carried out by real heroes and the people that Scottie did serve have them to thank for their efforts. The survivors are also real heroes themselves because they had to face and fight the odds. We thank God for everyone who made it out safely and grieve with those who lost someone. The Public StageShown on the right is a photo from the Concert on the Lake at Lake Park, and below from the Taste of Des Plaines. In both he is shown with the Barefoot Hawaiian, a Hawaiian entertainment company also located in Des Plaines, a company he frequently works with. For both these events, Scottie's primary job was to warm up the crowd before the Barefoot Hawaiian show and to keep the children entertained and occupied during show intermissions, something the parents really appreciate. He also often takes the stage himself performing with others or
putting on his own show.
Shown on right, Scottie is brought on stage by the Des Plaines Special Events Committee at the "Friday Night Live on the Plaza" - an event that runs on Friday evenings at the Des Plaines Public Library Plaza during the Summer. At this particular appearance in 2003, Scottie was named the Official
Parrot of Des Plaines. We are not quite sure what that means, but we
are proud of the honor. Bringing Attention to Any Service or BusinessScottie is present at this public showing and helps raise awareness of the Crime Stoppers organization and program. This is just one example where Scottie can help draw citizens to your cause and customers to your business. Don't let people pass right by something important they should know, or pass by your store, your product, or your service. Scottie not only can stop and draw people but can hold them long enough for you to deliver your message, show your product, or demonstrate your service. Whether a sidewalk display or a tradeshow booth, Scottie can help you get
your message out.
Mingling With Our Community OfficialsMany of our elected, appointed, and employed officials are present at the community events that Scottie works. Most wish to have a quick visit with him.
